Is your Sun Protection to blame for your ageing skin?

Beyond the harsh Australian Rays causing freckles & the odd burn each summer, it is easy to ignore the other damaging effects of the sun on our skin.

Putting the very serious possibility of Skin Cancer aside, those same rays can – and do – prematurely age our skin.

Over time, studies prove exposure to the sun cause skin issues such as pigmentation, premature lines + wrinkles, redness & dullness. We agree with the Cancer Councils recommendation to apply a 30+ or more sun protection – rain, hail or shine to prevent premature ageing.

Myth – “Sun exposure means sun baking at Merewether Beach prime summertime with tanning oil on”

It is walking to your car, hanging out the clothes, driving in the car or playing with the kids at the park. It is important to remember that sunburn is caused by UV radiation, which is not related to temperature.

Myth – “your daily facial moisturiser or mineral foundation has SPF 15+ and that’s enough protection”

Fact – One of the products you use each morning needs to have SPF of 30 or higher to be effectively protecting your skin. SPF50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation. SPF 15 only blocks around 93% of UVB radiation & will probably only just help reduce sunburn – not prevent the nasties.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. SPF relates to the amount of time it takes for redness to appear on the skin compared to when no product is used at all. The test is done in a laboratory.

For example, if it takes 10 minutes for unprotected skin to show redness, then an SPF30 sunscreen correctly applied, in theory, will take 30 times longer or 300 minutes to burn. However, it is hard to achieve this level of protection in real-life – factors such as skin type, ultraviolet (UV) levels, swimming/drying and how much sunscreen you apply can affect the level of protection. That’s why we always recommend applying liberally every two hours or after swimming, sweating or towel drying. It is also important to apply 20 minutes beforehand before being exposed to UV.

Myth – “all sun creams, especially with higher SPF content are heavy, greasy and smell like horrible chemicals”

With a unique blend of UV protective actives complexes with high potency antioxidants + hydrators, Colour Correction SPF 50+ is lightweight & does not give you that horrible greasy feeling or have chemical-smelling predecessors meanwhile protecting that precious, fragile skin of yours.

Aspect CC Cream 50+ Available at Designing Faces. Usage:
Apply liberally and evenly to all unprotected areas of the skin 20 minutes prior to sun exposure. Re-apply every 2 hours or more frequently after exercise, perspiration, swimming and towel drying. Always wear protective clothing, a hat and eyewear when exposed to the sun and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Do not apply directly onto ablated skin, wait until it has re-epithelialised.
